Industry News: China's New Energy Vehicle (NEV) Sector Sees Explosive Growth in H1 2025

(August 2025) - China's New Energy Vehicle (NEV) industry has reached a historic milestone in the first half of 2025, demonstrating unprecedented growth in both domestic sales and international exports. According to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM), NEV sales surged by 40.3% year-over-year, reaching approximately 6.94 million units. This remarkable performance means that NEVs now account for 44.3% of all new passenger vehicle sales in the country, signaling a rapid shift away from traditional internal combustion engines.

The production of NEVs grew even faster, with a 41.4% increase to nearly 6.97 million units. This robust manufacturing capability is fueling a massive wave of exports. In the first six months of 2025, China exported 1.06 million NEVs, a staggering 75.2% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. This boom is not limited to finished vehicles; exports of power batteries, a critical component, also saw significant growth, underscoring China's dominant position in the global EV supply chain.

By the end of June 2025, the total number of NEVs on China's roads exceeded 36 million, making up over 10% of the nation's entire vehicle fleet. This data highlights the accelerating pace of electrification in China, driven by strong policy support, technological innovation, and increasing consumer acceptance. Companies like BYD have been major contributors to this export surge, expanding their footprint in emerging markets across Asia and Latin America.
